Integrated Approach to Wellness I, II & III

Offered in conjunction with Portland State University, Continuing Education in the Graduate School of Education (CE/ED)

Offered as a series of three 10 hour weekend workshops – or combined as a 5 day intensive – this comprehensive training introduces you to the principles of Yoga Calm and all 60 activities in its curriculum. All workshops provide a unique and balanced approach to wellness by including breathing exercises, simple yoga poses, social/emotional skill development activities, relaxation/storytelling processes and emotional guidance techniques. Workshops are suitable for teachers, counselors, treatment center staff, yoga teachers, occupational therapists and adults who work with children.

Integrated Approach to Wellness I

This two day workshop introduces the Yoga Calm wellness system, including its basic principles and 20 classroom tools. Through lecture, hands-on learning, reflection and discussion, you’ll learn the nature of yoga as a complete wellness system. You’ll learn the research supporting it and activities that can calm a lively class and develop attention and control in students.

Suitable for all levels of abilities, this workshop will provide you with the basic knowledge and ability to immediately begin teaching basic yoga activities, stress reduction and focusing techniques and social emotional skill development activities. You will also learn more than 20 activities and class plans that can be taught in a variety of settings to instill healthy, lifelong physical, mental and emotional habits in children – and yourself.

All participants will also receive a copy of the book Yoga Calm for Children: Educating Heart, Mind, and Body.

newIntegrated Approach to Wellness II: Physical Connections to Learning

This two day workshop provides expert instruction in how to safely develop strength, flexibility and health awareness through 20 more activities from the Yoga Calm curriculum.

Using highly experiential activities, participants receive detailed instruction in alignment, sequencing and developmental stages and adaptations for diverse abilities, including special needs students. Breathing physiology, cognitive strategies and health and wellness lesson planning will also be included.

10 Washington Clock Hours and/or 1 PSU Graduate Credit available – certificate of training hours provided (see accreditations). Coursework also applies towards the pending Yoga Calm Instructor certification program.

Prerequisite: Completion of Integrated Approach to Wellness I workshop.

newIntegrated Approach to Wellness III: Social/Emotional Connections to Learning

This two day workshop provides in depth instruction in the use of Yoga Calm's social / emotional development activities, emotional guidance and mind/body counseling techniques through 20 more activities from the Yoga Calm curriculum.

Case histories from school counseling, private practice and clinical experience will be used to highlight and develop successful strategies and techniques useful for working with a broad range of student needs. The use of story telling, symbolic language and complementary aspects of Eastern and Western psychology will also be covered.

10 Washington Clock Hours and/or 1 PSU Graduate Credit available - certificate of training hours provided (see accreditations). Coursework also applies towards the pending Yoga Calm Instructor certification program.

This course provides all three of the above workshops in a condensed 5 day format. Held at a variety of beautiful retreat centers, this workshop is an excellent way to learn all 60 Yoga Calm activities in a focused learning environment.More Info
